St. Augustine’s Nights of Lights is one of the biggest events of the season in northern Florida. However, that also makes it the busiest time of year in St. Augustine's historic district. Don’t fret, there are always options to ensure that you and your family have the best time imaginable while experiencing the beautiful lights. Whether it is your first trip to see the lights, or an annual tradition, this guide was designed to help you navigate the ins and outs of this magical event like a local.

The official start date for Nights of Lights this year is November 21, 2026. This day is celebrated with Light Up! Night and the official lighting ceremony, which begins downtown at 6:30pm. For Christmas connoisseurs, this is a night that cannot be missed! However, additional planning may be needed due to the high amount of traffic in the area throughout the day.

Here are three tips to keep you in the holiday spirit throughout your trip to see the lights.

  1. Plan Ahead!

Visiting St. Augustine during Nights of Lights can sometimes be overwhelming, especially if you don’t know what to expect. Driving, parking, and even walking can be stressful, so let Pineapple Ride & Tour handle all of the logistics while you enjoy your night.

Offering golf cart and pedicab options, Pineapple Ride & Tour has the experience to best fit your needs. Regardless of the tour you choose, a local guide will show you the best parts of town, making sure that you still enjoy your time in St. Augustine.

Private tours are also available! These tours seat up to ten, allowing your whole group to celebrate the season together. It is a great option for family reunions, company outings, or just a private and romantic experience for you and your significant other.

Driving into town for the evening? Pineapple Ride & Tour offers free parking for all customers during the duration of their tour. Don’t worry about finding a parking spot blocks from the tour and having to navigate the streets on foot, Pineapple Ride & Tour is here to make the night as stress-free as possible.

Pineapple Ride & Tour has been showing Christmas lovers the beauty of Nights of Lights with overwhelming success for years. Every tour option is on sale now, so reserve your seat before tickets sell out!

  1. Know Your Options for the Whole Family

While walking the streets of St. Augustine during Nights of Lights may be how many people explore the town, it is not the best option for all members of your family. Every generation deserves to get together and share the holiday cheer, which is why Pineapple Ride & Tour is a fantastic option for you.

Unlike other tour services in town, Pineapple Ride & Tour is fully accessible for those with mobility issues. They understand why these holiday traditions are so important to visitors, and work hard to provide a Christmas experience that everyone in your family has dreamed of.

Pineapple Ride & Tour’s electric golf carts are low to the ground and easy to navigate. Plus, there is no need to get on and off throughout your trip. Once you and your family have picked your seats, you can get comfortable and enjoy the next hour experiencing St. Augustine’s incredible light show.

  1. Be Patient!

It is important to be aware of some major traffic disruptors that may add to your travel time this holiday season.

The King Street bridge, which connects US-1 to downtown St. Augustine is closed for construction. An alternate route has been created at Malaga Street. This is expected to increase traffic congestion throughout the area, particularly on US-1.

Street traffic is known to be at its highest during Nights of Lights, particularly on weekends and holidays. It is important to keep this in mind as you plan your trip to St. Augustine, whether it is for one night or a multi-day trip.

When are the best times to visit St. Augustine’s Nights of Lights?

For those looking for a more quiet time to visit, consider planning your trip for after January 1, 2027. This is when the crowds become much smaller, but the scenery is the same. Nights of Lights officially comes to a close on January 18, 2027, giving you plenty of time after the holiday rush to enjoy the city.

If you plan your trip right, you can enjoy the 17th annual St. Augustine Film Festival, hosted from January 7-10, 2027 in Lewis Auditorium.

If you are taking a day trip to St. Augustine to experience the Nights of Lights, a weekday is also a great option. The weekends between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day are always crowded with visitors and locals alike. However, Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s during this stretch are much easier to navigate, and a perfect option for someone within a short drive of the oldest city.

Many visitors enjoy adding to their holiday festivities with the annual Tour of Homes, hosted by the Garden Club of St. Augustine! Every year, residents in the historic district put their beautifully decorated homes on display for the public to enjoy. 2026 marks 50 years of this holiday celebration. Consider adding this hidden gem to your itinerary if you are in St. Augustine on December 13, 2026.

No matter what you end up choosing to do while in town, Pineapple Ride & Tour is here to handle all of your transportation needs so you can see St. Augustine like a local! Give us a call at 904-615-5515 to book with us today.
